Academican Guoliang Chen is one of the founders for the Department of Computer Science and Technology, University of Science and Technology of China. He has serviced as the department chair for more than 13 years.
Since the early 70’s of the 20th century, Academican Chen has taught major courses including "Digital Logic", "Foundation of Computers", "Micro computer and Assembly Language", "Computer Architecture" and "Computer Network" successively.
From 1980’s, Academican Chen continuously teaches courses including "Parallel Graph Algorithm ", "Parallel Computation Theory of VLSI ", "Parallel Computing" and "Parallel Programming". Meanwhile, he has edited and written series of books including: "Parallel Algorithms : Sorting and Selection"(1990), "Parallel Computation Theory and Algorithms of VLSI" (1991) and "Parallel Graph Algorithms"(1991).
Starting from mid-1990’s, during the teaching practice in the course of "Parallel and Distributed Computing", Academican Chen introduced area frontiers and excellent materials from foreign textbooks, making the course both introductive and perspective. Meanwhile, Academican Chen has finished the high quality book series in parallel computing, including: "Parallel Computing: Architecture, Algorithms and Programming" (1999, second ed. 2003), "Parallel Computer Architecture" (2002),"Design and Analysis of Parallel Algorithms" (1994, second ed. 2002),and "Practice of Parallel Algorithms" (2004). The editing of these books was included into the chinese "State Key Textbook of the Eighth Five-year Plan" and the plan of "21th Century-oriented Textbook "of the Ministry of Education of China. Because of his contribution and achievement, and the universal acknowledgement of the textbooks, Academican Chen won the second prize of "National Level Teaching Achievement Award" in China and the first prize of the "Scientific and Technological Progress Award" of the Ministry of Education of China, in 1997 and 2000 respectively.
In 2003, Academican Chen won the prize of 1st "Master Teachers at University" in China, and at that time, he was the only one who won the prize among Academicians of the CAS. |
